NetChronometer uses the RFC-868 time service specification.
NetChronometer sets the date and time on your Macintosh using the time value returned from the server.
NetChronometer asks the network time server for the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). NetChronometer then calculates the offset for your local time zone from GMT, adds that to the received GMT value, and uses that to set your clock.
For example, if you were on the east coast of the US in the Eastern Standard Time zone, the local time is -5 hours from GMT. If NetChronometer receives a GMT time of 1500, it then subtracts 5 hours from it to give you a local time of 1000. It then uses this to set your clock.
In order for NetChronometer to correctly ascertain the GMT offset for your time zone, you must have the "Map" and "Date & Time" control panels configured properly. Please refer to the setup steps elsewhere in this manual.
